Along with my landscape monoprints I am also looking at the body as a place for the assignments theme. I am inspired by the disfigured and abstract bodily forms that are present in Picasso’s work, particularly Guernica. I want to create monoprints that are similar in vein to the floating limbs present in the painting.

Using yupo I cut out body part stencils. I also cut out outlines to be able to create layered background effects and further experiment with forms as shown in the background of this image. This print I ghost printed the background to add texture and an ethereal space-like aesthetic to the piece. The foot and hand were separate stencils I placed together when printing. Separating each body part allowed me to create different compositions of body parts with the same stencils as shown below.

I added extra layers of texture to the work by using cheesecloth as a stencil for the red layer. I chose red to compliment my colour choices in my landscape and to reflect blood. The cheesecloth added a vein-like quality too which I found interesting in exploring the inner workings of the body as a place.
