While rolling out ink for my previous print, I noticed that the remnants of the ecowash I had sprayed on the perspex was acting as a resist to the ink. The streaked marks of the wiped ecowash inspired me to use this lithographic accident to my advantage to create backgrounds for my monotypes, as it seemed as if it could add great texture and depth to my prints.

I struggled with replicating the streaky marks across the whole perspex as I rolled up the ink. With the black ink I found it to roll out in larger splotches rather than purely resisting where the ecowash was. Despite this I was happy with how it turned out and will add another layer in red with stencils to refine the print.

I started a second print where I worked out creating a more realistic stormy sky for a landscape. One layer of print with the same technique as above did not give the dense, grey sky I intended.

This is the same print after around 10 layers of monotype. The final result had the atmospheric moodiness to it that I envisioned. Printing layers upon layers rendered the sky with a lot of depth and tonality. Next I will add mountains to the foreground.
